The Simplify Tail Risk ETF , which trades under the cheeky ticker "CYA," is headed for liquidation later this month after a brutal money-losing stretch. CYA 1Y mountain Simplify's Tail Risk ETF has been beaten down by the market rally. "Tail protection, which was heavily desired in 2020, has no bids right now. And that way if you're losing money on it, and it's a tail risk ETF where you're buying a put [option], then you understand why that's happening," Armour said. "A tail risk ETF is going to go potentially over a decade without working, and that's okay.

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission pushed for bitcoin exchange-traded funds to have a key difference from major stock funds, and that decision's effect on how the funds trade will only become clear over time. The bitcoin funds that launched Thursday are using a share redemption process that turns the underlying crypto into cash. Most ETFs primarily use an in-kind redemption process, where the underlying asset does not have to be actually sold. There is some concern that using the cash-only redemption model could make the plumbing of the ETFs less efficient. Using cash-only redemption could result in ETFs that have weaker liquidity and wider bid-ask spreads, Grayscale argued.

The agency signed off on 11 bitcoin ETF applications, including funds from BlackRock , Fidelity, Ark Invest, WisdomTree and Grayscale. But there are things to consider before rushing to purchase bitcoin ETFs. 'Better than anything else on the market'While bitcoin carries risk, if you want to add exposure, experts say the new bitcoin ETFs could be worth considering compared to owning bitcoin directly or bitcoin futures ETFs. "These spot bitcoin ETFs are better than anything else on the market," said Armour, referring to other bitcoin investing options. The Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) charged 2.0% before converting to a spot bitcoin ETF, and now has fees of 1.5%.

The Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday gave the green light to the listing and trading of 11 bitcoin exchange-traded funds, or ETFs. Understand what bitcoin is … and what it isn’tIt’s important to grasp what kind of asset bitcoin is. Plus, bitcoin ETFs will make it easier for financial advisers to access the cryptocurrency for their clients who can afford to invest in alternative asset classes. Deciding if a bitcoin ETF makes sense for youThe investment firms that have received approval to offer bitcoin ETFs are competing fiercely for investor dollars. And if you normally invest on a platform that automatically rebalances your portfolio for you, make sure the system does not rebalance your holdings based on your bitcoin investment.

Nov 13 (Reuters) - Fidelity launched a group of six new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) Monday and announced sharp reductions on management fees on nearly a third of its total ETF lineup, kicking off what analysts expect to be another strong week for ETF debuts. So far this year, asset managers have launched 419 ETFs, according to Morningstar Direct, taking 2023 a step closer toward breaking the 2021 record of 475 new ETFs. The move will boost Ark's lineup from eight ETFs to a total of 15. The Fidelity products offer fees of 18 basis points to 28 basis points, compared with an average fee of around 63 basis points for actively managed ETFs, according to Bryan Armour, mutual fund analyst at Morningstar. "These are very, very substantial reductions, and the new fees are very low," said Armour.

Bitcoin investors are eagerly waiting for regulators to approve the first U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund, which could be significant for cryptocurrency investors, experts say. Last week, the price of bitcoin notched an 18-month high, climbing to $37,970, after BlackRock took first steps toward an ether ETF. At least nine asset management firms — including BlackRock, WisdomTree, Valkyrie and others — are waiting for Securities and Exchange Commission approval to issue a spot bitcoin ETF. Currently, U.S. investors can buy bitcoin futures ETFs, which own bitcoin futures contracts, or agreements to buy or sell the asset later for an agreed-upon price. The long-awaited bitcoin spot ETF would invest in the digital asset directly.

Today's higher interest rate environment drives home the reason why investors should scrutinize stocks offering tempting double-digit yields. Digging beneath the surface Multiple factors may contribute to a stock touting high dividend yields at first blush. First, there are dividend sustainers – companies that have made steady payments for years, including Merck , Johnson & Johnson and Southern Co . Investors who want to hunt dividend payers shouldn't go for the biggest yielders, but instead look for names that are in the second or third quintile among dividend payers, he said. "For many investors, you can get a pretty good dividend play and a good yield through ETFs at a low cost," said Ebersole.

Oct 12 (Reuters) - Simplify Asset Management plans to roll out three new exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that rely on artificial intelligence rather than human beings to select portfolio holdings, adding to a nascent sub-sector that has so far delivered underwhelming results for investors. "A large portion of the investment community remains wary of putting their money into a product that depends on algorithms," Sohn said. The largest fund in this $673.5 million slice of the $7 trillion market for U.S. ETFs is the WisdomTree U.S. AI Enhanced Value Fund (AIVL.P), with net assets of $363.4 million. Single-stock ETFs made their debut in 2022, but only a handful of products have since been introduced by five firms, including Direxion. Even as the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission delays a decision on several applications for the first spot bitcoin exchange-traded fund, many in the crypto industry are still feeling optimistic for a future blessing from the agency. SEC filings dated Aug. 31 indicated the agency would give itself until mid-October to make decisions on several applications. The update came two days after a federal appeals court sided with Grayscale in a lawsuit against the SEC for denying its application to convert the Grayscale Bitcoin Trust to an ETF. U.S. investors currently have access to bitcoin futures ETFs, which invest in bitcoin futures contracts, or agreements to buy or sell the asset later for an agreed-upon price. The long-awaited bitcoin spot ETF, however, would invest in the digital currency directly.

The Capital Group Dividend Value ETF has a "secret sauce" that led it to outperform its peers this year, according to Morningstar. The fund, ticker CGDV, is the top performing dividend fund so far this year, said Bryan Armour, Morningstar's director of passive strategies research for North America. However, the fund also invests in some non-dividend paying companies, which helped give it a boost this year. CGDV, Capital Group's largest exchange traded fund, is one of the first six ETFs the firm launched in February 2022. "Investors appreciate its non-traditional value strategy focusing on above average income while also generating long-term capital appreciation through an emphasis on companies trading below their intrinsic value," Gerber said.

An options strategy that's done just right will let you capture appreciation as stocks rise and generate some portfolio income. Enter covered calls. With covered calls, rising markets introduce an element of risk: Sell a covered call against a stock that takes off on a hot streak, and you miss an opportunity. "The Nasdaq 100 has had some incredible runs, and investors missed out on those if they were in the covered calls strategy," Armour said. "In a year like 2022, I'm not sure the Nasdaq 100 covered calls strategy would feel defensive."

BlackRock filed for a prospective spot bitcoin ETF on June 15, undeterred by the Securities and Exchange Commission's (SEC) past record of rejecting every such application. Bitcoin's market value has grown to comprise nearly half of the $1.1 trillion overall crypto market, its highest share in over two years, according to data tracker CoinMarketCap.com. Since the BlackRock filing, Invesco and WisdomTree have also reapplied for spot bitcoin ETFs after they had previous applications rejected by the regulator. Bryan Armour, director of passive strategies research for North America at Morningstar, said a spot bitcoin ETF could be a more cost-effective way for investors to trade. "It doesn't appear that most crypto ETF holders are institutional – assets are pretty spread out," he added.

The years-long push for an exchange traded fund that tracks bitcoin will finally get its day in court this week. Several different firms tried to bring a spot bitcoin ETF to market in the U.S. without success, but Grayscale Investments is taking it a step further for the future of its Grayscale Bitcoin Trust (GBTC) . The largest of those funds, the ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF (BITO) , now has nearly $800 million in assets under management. Over the past year, the market price of a GBTC share has fallen by roughly 60%, according to Grayscale's website. Crypto winter The excitement around a bitcoin ETF has cooled considerably along with the prices for crypto markets in general.
BlackRock launched the AAA CLO ETF (CLOA) less than a month ago, and the product already has about $30 million in assets under management. Panagram Structured Asset Management is exploring riskier versions in the same ETF sector, launching the BBB-B CLO ETF (CLOZ) and surpassing the $20 million mark in less than two weeks. Fixed income funds boom The growth of these funds comes after a boom in fixed income ETFs in 2022, as rising interest rates and high inflation sent investors hunting for ways to generate additional yield. Invesco and VanEck also launched CLO ETFs last year, presenting additional investment options. However, there are diversification benefits to having floating rate ETFs for investors, especially in the U.S. where most fixed income products have a fixed rather than a floating rate, Kerschner said.
The nascent single-stock ETFs have reached a key period to prove their worth after a slow start for the group in the United States. I know we're in the first inning here, but it has not been a very good start for single-stock ETFs," Aniket said. However, the issuers of the funds — AXS, Direxion and GraniteShares, so far — have stressed that trading volume is a key test for these short-term focused funds. But if investors don't follow the daily trading prescribed for the funds, performance can suffer. What comes next Single-stock funds are already well established in Europe.
